Kashana is situated within a historic building in the artistic retreat of Omaruru. Originally built in 1907 as a casino catering to nearby mineworkers, the name “Kashana” is likely to have been derived from the expansive bush savannah surrounding it, resembling a vast open plain, known as “Kashana” in the Owambo language.
After enduring wear and tear, meticulous restoration has revived the building to its former grandeur, highlighting its German colonial heritage.
Reopened in 2007, it now serves as the focal point of a Lodge-style Guesthouse, featuring a charming bar and a popular all-day à la carte restaurant.
Drawing Kashana’s guests and locals alike, it offers a serene garden dining, under the canopy of old trees, whilst the town itself is home to two wineries and tasting rooms and a root carver’s market.
Kashana offers 12 Luxury Thatch-roofed Chalets, of which Nine are situated directly on the banks of the Omaruru riverbed:
Five boast two double beds (with shower facilities). Two Honeymoon suites featuring a King-size bed (bath & shower facilities). Two Chalets, both offering one double bed and a single bed. Three Chalets, each feature two single beds (with shower facilities).
Two double-storey Family Chalets, riverside with thatched roofs, offer either two or three single beds on the upper floor (with shower facilities), match the Luxury Chalets’ standards, featuring a loft making them ideal for family stays.
Two Standard rooms near the pool feature an apartment-style layout with a separate lounge area and a shared verandah. Each room has twin single beds (with shower facilities).
